El amigo cercano de la leyenda de la NBA y sucesor de los Lakers de Los Ángeles, LeBron James, pronunció un sincero discurso durante el tributo previo al partido a Bryant en el Staples Center el viernes por la noche. Lebrón honró a las nueve personas que murieron trágicamente durante el accidente del helicóptero del domingo pasado, y calificó el evento como una “celebración” de la vida y el legado de Bryant.
“He escrito algo”, compartió Lebron, antes de descartar sus comentarios preaprobados para “ir directamente del corazón”.
En palabras de Lebron, “Lo primero que viene a la mente es todo sobre la familia. Y cuando miro alrededor de este campo, todos estamos afligidos, todos heridos, todos desconsolados. Cuando estamos pasando por cosas así, lo mejor que puedes hacer es apoyarte en los hombros de tu familia ".
“Escuché acerca de Lakers Nation antes de llegar aquí ... sobre la cantidad de familia que es, y eso es absolutamente lo que he visto toda esta semana”, agregó. “No solo de los jugadores, no solo del cuerpo técnico, no solo de la organización sino de todos. Todos los que están aquí ... Esto es realmente una verdadera familia. Y sé que Kobe y Gianna [Bryant] y Vanessa [Bryant] agradecen desde el fondo de su corazón ".
“Sé que en algún momento tendremos un monumento conmemorativo para Kobe, pero lo veo como una celebración esta noche”, declaró Lebron. “Esta es una celebración de los 20 años de la sangre, el sudor, las lágrimas, el cuerpo destrozado, el levantarse, sentarse, las innumerables horas, la determinación de ser lo mejor posible”.

“Esta noche celebramos al niño que vino aquí a los 18 años, se retiró a los 38 y se convirtió en el mejor padre que hemos visto en los últimos tres años. Esta noche es una celebración”.
Lebron luego describió a Kobe como un “hermano” y dijo que, a pesar de sus años como oponentes, “lo único que siempre compartimos fue la determinación de ganar y ser grandiosos”.
“El hecho de que estoy aquí significa mucho para mí. Quiero continuar con mis compañeros de equipo para continuar su legado, no solo para este año, sino siempre y cuando podamos jugar al baloncesto que amamos porque eso es lo que Kobe Bryant querría ".
Lebron luego concluyó: “En palabras de Kobe Bryant, Mamba salió. Pero en palabras de nosotros, no se olvida. Vive, hermano”.
